In Ubuntu 15.04, the wireless can't even connect at all. That was the original issue that made me want to explore non-Mint distros. In Mint 17.1, the wireless will connect at first, then seems to drop after about 15-30 minutes with no automatic reconnection, the only way to restore wireless is to flip the on/off wifi button on the cinnamon desktop. I decided to experiment with live usbs of Lubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 15.04. It's been a busy week, but I just wanted to say thanks for the replies and give an update. However since Linux Mint is pretty popular you could also try to look for a guide specifically for Linux Mint by replacing ubuntu in the search term for Linux Mint, chances are you'll find a guide and it'll be more easy to follow along. Since Linux Mint 17 is based on Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (Ubuntu 14.04) then that means most if not all guides that work for Ubuntu should be working on your Linux Mint installation as well.
However, to get better results I'd advise you to find out the exact model of your wireless card and then looking for a fix, if possible try to read through a couple of guides first prior to following them and trying to find out more recent (by date) guides or solutions to your problem.

If there's no available drivers then I'm afraid you'll have to google for a solution, you could try a search term similar to this: Trendnet Wireless G PCI ubuntu However I'd suggest first installing the operating system and then doing the driver enabling. Just choose the wireless driver and hit "Apply Changes".

It'll ask for your password (if on a live-usb/cd, you should be able to just hit enter without typing in a password), then the driver manager will check your system for any available drivers and chances are that your wireless card will have a proprietary (meaning it's not open-source and Linux Mint won't be able to ship with it by default) and that you'll have to manually enable it. Just open up the program menu and type in driver and it should appear in the list. Have you tried opening up the driver manager and seeing if the driver is listed there?
